Seasonal allergies can DIAF. I took a benedryl last night before bed and this morning my eyes are still itching like crazy, it’s driving me mad.
Anyway. Let’s talk sewing since that’s the first thing in my pics for today.
Last Monday I got home from work to a happy mail day!
Star Trek TNG uniform pattern! WOO
White knit for jedi Leia!
But I wasn’t super stoked about the white knit. It was OK. I went with a cotton jersey which I thought would be fairly soft with a good drape, but it’s much thicker than I anticipated. And omg it wrinkles like mad. Sunday night I’d gotten the pattern pieces cut out and ready to go, so by Tuesday I already had a semblance of a dress.
I cut the pattern pieces out to what the pattern envelope said was my size, but I should have known better, especially with a stretchy fabric. It was way too big. I put it on the dressform inside out, took up all the seams (the front seams in particular) and it looked better. As you can see I haven’t done anything with the sleeves and collar yet, they’re just cut out and ready to go when the time comes.
Same with the hood.
So like I said above, I wasn’t super stoked about this fabric. It also strangely mis-cut by the fabric store I bought it from. But thankfully not bad enough to be unusable, but enough to frustrate me in getting it laid out to cut. I decided, as I was cutting the pieces out, that this would be version 1. I’m going to get everything worked out on this version, finish it up, and sell it. I’ve already bought different fabric to use for “my” version. I’ve also got some fabric on the way for the grey yoke pieces – but I found some in my stash I may use instead? Going to make that call when the ordered fabric gets here.
One of the things I need to correct on “my” version is the princess seams up the front. Even after being taken up they are sitting too far “out” on the side of the chest. I think that front pattern piece is just a bit too wide, so it’ll just be an adjustment when I cut.
Started working on a pattern for the yoke.
Just using some junk green cotton out of the stash.
Both sides. I was trying to cut it as one piece, but I think the shape demands two pieces with a seam in the center – I have it pinched up here. And the lines drawn on it were me trying to figure out the distance between the quilting lines – the side closest to the camera is what I’m going with.
So once I got that far, I paused and moved back around to my new library Belle skirt. I’m using the “false rump” pattern from the American Duchess book, though I’m sewing everything by machine and not by hand!
Here’s the false rump before I stuffed the pillows – I’m just using batting since I had a partial bag on hand. I never took a pic of it finished, though!
Then it was finally time to cut into my beautiful green silk I bought last year for this. I just cut two big squares, one for the front and one for the back – kinda following the steps in teh American Duchess book but also kinda just making it up as I went along.
ooooh ahhh
Just kinda slapped onto the dressform to get an idea.
Here’s where I left it Saturday night.
Besides hemming it (just pinned up here), It still needs some tweaks… it’s too big, for one. In these pics I have nearly 4 inches taken up with pins. I’m going to have to take the waist ribbons off and repleat them down smaller.
And I’m not sure how I’m feeling about how the false rump is looking. I think I may have to do more research into how they’re supposed to look. But I really don’t like the big gap in the back. I tried to pin them closer to each other to eliminate a bit of that, but it’s pulling them to the back and making it look more like a bustle. I was wondering if maybe the batting was affecting the shape, being different than using feathers… but I don’t think that’s the issue, I think it’s just figuring out placement.
So that’s where I’m currently at with sewing things. I didn’t get to sew yesterday at all, which was a bummer, and doesn’t look like I’ll get to do anything tonight, either. So I think tomorrow I’m going to swing back around to the leia dress and get it hemmed and cleaned up on the inside.
House stuff!
I bought these solar powered mushroom lights for the backyard!
I don’t have any pics of them lit up because for some reason only one is working. Chase is going to look at them tonight and see what I did wrong LOL
And the big news is we FINALLY HUNG SOMETHING ON THE WALLS
We have soooo much art and posters and stuff, I currently have most of it stacked in the dining room, some in my sewing room. But it’s so much that it’s actually kinda daunting to figure out where to put it. I decided a while back to do the staircase up to the sewing room in disney stuff. So Saturday we finally started hanging some of it!
Monorail went up first.
Then this print I got a dragoncon last year over the door.
Then my Haunted Mansion sign and the stretching portraits straight across from the door!
Left it like that for the time being; I have a bunch of 5×7 prints (I buy those Wonderground Gallery postcards at disney to use as small prints), most of them I have in frames and they’re ready to go, but I think I want to get the rest of the “big” things up first and then sprinkle the smaller things in between. The main thing I need to get frames for are my attractions posters – I got one of those large scale calendars a few years ago, the kind that have the perforation so you can tear the dates off and be left with a nice poster/print. They’re all 12×18 so I’ve been looking for a decent priced set of 12×18 frames on amazon. I want to get those up next.
Saturday night we were looking everywhere for my copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 – which I’ve had since it came out but haven’t gotten to play yet – couldn’t find it but in the search I did come across more prints in a box that I’d been wondering where they were, including a couple of more 11×14 Disney prints that’ll need frames.
Anyway!
Saturday was a lot of errand-running. Sunday was Easter of course!
I should have done this at an angle where my neighbor’s truck wasn’t in the background. LOL
Easter Lunch
Kevin living his best instagram life
So we’re off work Friday. We are going to do a photoshoot of my pink georgian in the morning, then I’m going to do a quick change and we’re going to go to the zoo for the afternoon! I’m excited, I haven’t been to the zoo in forever. (Well, we did a troop there last summer, but didn’t really walk around much). Then we’re going to go have ramen for dinner and then we have tickets to see Avengers Endgame at the imax. Woo! That will be a fun day.
Then Saturday we’re doing an event in Selmer and once that’s over, we’re driving up to jackson to pick up some furniture from mema and daddy bob’s. Getting my couch for my sewing room YAY
So look for that and more on next week’s blog post.
ART!
Padme #98. This was concept for the AOTC packing gown. I really liked the dark colours contrasting the bright teal/turquoise jewels.
#99 is in progress now and is the last Queen Amidala of the project. #100 has a rough sketch started, it’s another AOTC era. And then I’ll be donnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeee
Oh I almost forgot. We ran to Michaels for thread and they had 2 boxes of the LOTR figures left, on clearance. So even though I said I wasn’t going to buy them anymore (I KEPT GETTING HOBBITS) I bought them. One was a Sam (I think that was Sam #4) but the other was GOLLUM! Yay, so at least I got one I didn’t have.
